Dilemma Night

Mess: AUCY members had to navigate this... blindfolded!Mess: AUCY members had to navigate this... blindfolded! One of the highlights of Dilemma Night was navigating the hall. It had been trashed with random objects and to make it harder, we were blindfolded! We only could be guided by the voice of our parter who gave us directions to get through the mess.

We then maked pikelets! Except one team had the recipe and the other didnt. But both batches were edible which made for a great supper!

AUCY T-shirts

As a way of promoting AUCY, these shirts are about to be printed. Initial plans are for leaders only to wear the shirts, but if there is enough interest from AUCY members, brightly coloured member shirts may also be produced in the future.

AUCY T-shirts: AUCY Leaders will soon be wearing these shirts.AUCY T-shirts: AUCY Leaders will soon be wearing these shirts.

Pirate Night

Pirates aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeee cool!

At AUCY on 20 February we learnt that we could be a bit more like pirates. Striving for the treasure! (not Gold, but treasure in heaven with God!)

We did a treasure hunt over the church grounds, and thought what few items we would take if we got stranded alone on a deserted island.

Read our devotion: Usually we think of things like treasure, awesome hats, and living free.  While pirates lives sometimes included those things, for the most part it was a harsh existence.  They would often go for weeks with either nothing but meagre, mouldy rations or even none at all.  Many pirate ships even starved to death.  They had to deal with disease so much, that often when they boarded ships the first thing they'd run to take was the medicine cabinet.  And even if they were able to capture a prize, a pirate always lived in fear of being caught by the Navy and sentenced to death.  So with all of this, why do you think there were so many pirates and why they stayed?  They were holding out for the prize.  That one day on the horizon they would see a set of sails and it would be a heavily laden Spanish Galleon carrying gold back from the New World.  Or an East India Merchantman bringing back fine spices and silks.  And that after all the plunder was shared they could retire and live a life of luxury that they could only dream of in their former life.  But the reason you don't hear about many pirates who did that, is that most pirates even if they did strike it lucky, ended up spending all their money in a few short months and would then be back at sea trying their luck again.  Their prize was temporary and left them hungry for more. As Christians we're called to hold out for the greatest prize of all, and it's one that doesn't tarnish, and can't be sunk to the bottom of the sea, it's eternal life.  And just as pirates had to chase after their prize with a persistence that was unheard of, we too need to chase after the prize the same way.   How do we chase the prize and lay up treasures in heaven?  Simply by obeying Jesus, helping others, giving to the poor, sharing Jesus with our friends, and spending time at church worshipping, learning, working, and serving.
